Call for paintings – 14th My Space Dream Space Paintings Contest

MVA is proud to co-host the 14th My Space Dream Space Paintings Contest, in cooperation with the Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA)

Background information

Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA) has organized the ‘My Space Dream’ Space Painting Contest for primary and secondary school students, aiming to encourage teenagers to explore the universe and depict their space dreams. The event has been held thirteen times so far, with nearly one million visitors to the exhibition.

Since 2019, the ‘My Space Dream’ space painting Contest has held an exhibition during Space Day of China on April 24th. The first prize work of Miao Friends with Life in the Universe was presented to Ms. Simonetta Di Pippo, the Director of UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), who attended the Opening Ceremony of 2019 Space Day of China.

At the 2022 China Space Conference, the award-winning works of the contest were presented to ambassadors and representatives of five countries’ embassies and institutions in China.

In 2024, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, the Little Prince’s Starry Night space painting was exhibited, and the event was included in the government’s official series of celebration activities.

On April 24, 2024, at the opening ceremony of Space Day of China, award-winning paintings were presented to ambassadors and representatives from 25 Latin American and Caribbean countries’ embassies and institutions.

In June 2024, the space painting My Space Dream was invited to participate in the celebration exhibition of UNOOSA’s first Lunar Sustainability Conference. The little painters received a handwritten thanks letter from Ms. Aarti Holla-Maini, the Director General of UNOOSA.

THEME

The theme of this year’s contest is ‘2025: Space Odyssey’.
The purpose of this event is to encourage teenagers to unblock their creativity and use their paintbrushes to depict endless imaginations of space resource development and utilization, space tourism, space civilization and communication, AI and robotics, and the peaceful use of space for the future of humanity.


PARTICIPANTS

  1. Individuals under the age of 18 (regardless of nationality) can create independently.
  2. Four groups are divided based on age: 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-18 years old.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. There are no restrictions on the types and techniques of art creation, but only hand-drawn two-dimensional works are acceptable, including oil paintings, watercolors, gouaches, prints, comics, etc.
    • Digital art, AI drawing, or Paper Cutting will be regarded as invalid.
  2. Size:
    • A approximately A2 (420mm × 594mm) or A3 (297mm × 420mm) artwork.
    • Horizontal or vertical layout is acceptable.
  3. The work must be an independent original work.
    • The contestant has full copyright, and the work must not have participated in any other competitions.

PRIZES

1. Prize Setting

  • Prizes will be set up according to age groups, including 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes, 30 third prizes, and several excellent prizes.
  • The tutor of each winner who wins first, second, or third prize will receive the Outstanding Tutor Award.
  • All winners will receive an award certificate issued by the organizers.

2. Other Rewards

  • Winning works will be exhibited at the ‘My Space Dream’ space painting exhibition on Space Day of China 2025 and other exhibitions held by UNOOSA.
  • Authors and schools will be invited to relevant exhibition openings or workshops.
  • Outstanding works may be included in the ‘My Space Dream’ cultural derivatives material library.
  • Some award-winning works will be published on official websites, journals, astronaut exhibitions, or activities organized by the Chinese Society of Astronautics.

OWNERSHIP OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

  1. Once all participating works are submitted, their copyright belongs to the organizers.
  2. Organizers have the right to use the work in exhibitions, publicity, cultural publications, and non-commercial publications.
  3. If any infringement of third-party copyright occurs, the responsibility belongs to the participant and their guardian, and organizers assume no responsibility.

  1. Scan your work into an electronic file in JPG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, or PNG format, with a file size not exceeding 10MB.

  3. The submission email should be in English or Chinese.

  1. Please keep the original artwork properly. After the award ceremony, excellent works will be collected for astronaut exhibitions, cultural symbol libraries, and other related activities.
