The “MVA Moon Market Annual Award” is provided yearly since 2023 to business organizations that reached major achievements during the year by supporting the creation of the Moon Market. The company ispace from Japan was the sole 2023 nominate and winner.

In 2024, the “MVA Moon Market Annual Award” will be attributed to a maximum of 3 organizations, active along at least one of the following Moon Market 9 segments, as defined by the MVA Lunar Commerce Portfolio:

  • M1: Transportation to/from the Moon
  • M2: Transportation on the Moon
  • M3: Communications & Navigation on the Moon
  • M4: Energy and Power
  • M5: Services and Public Good
  • M6: In-Situ Construction & Manufacturing
  • M7: Lunar Resource Extraction
  • M8: Habitation and Storage
  • M9: Lunar Food Production

One goal of the Moon Markets Award is to remain open to entities with good projects, without discriminating on the size, the level of financing, or the project advancement. In particular, it is NOT a necessary condition for companies to have reached the level of flight hardware yet.

Schedule of Awards presentation

Such awards are scheduled and presented at the 8th Global Moon, effective December 2024.

Specific goals and objectives recognised by the Award

They include promoting innovation, recognizing excellence, and fostering collaboration in lunar activities, as well as specific performances for each nominee and winner. The Award may also recognize organizations that have done a great deal in building a thriving space and lunar commercial ecosystem nationally, regionally, or globally.

Eligibility criteria for companies and startups to participate

They are flexible in considering the stage of development, size, and focus of their projects. Business and revenue model could be exemplified, especially if it manages to consider key sustainability aspects

Ecosystem partners leading the development of a regional or global multistakeholder lunar economy ecosystem are also recognized.

Categories envisioned for the Awards

They may evolve under circumstances and the nature of applicants:

  • Moonshot Award for projects that demonstrate groundbreaking and audacious goals in lunar exploration
  • Sustainability Award for projects that emphasize sustainable practices and long-term lunar habitation plans.
  • Student and Emerging Innovator Awards, for students or emerging innovators to encourage the next generation of space leaders.
  • International Collaboration Award, for projects that involve collaboration between organizations from various countries.
  • Any other category relevant to the nature of candidates and their proposals.

Application process and cut-off date

The cut-off date to apply for the “MVA Moon Market Annual Award” 2024 is Monday 28 October 2024 Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

Interested organizations are welcome to apply on this form and include their coordinates and presentation materials.

Candidates are free to choose which material to upload. In the interest of time, we suggest candidates use their existing off-the-shelf communication material (with some tweaking if required) besides their website, such as:

  • a short video (3-5 mn)
  • a one pager (it’s okay to recycle a conference poster)
  • a slide deck and/or a word/pdf long-form document (it can blend parts of the website with some specific info)

Candidates are free to offer any angle. But candidates are strongly encouraged to focus on a specific market or tech they wish to emphasize, or to highlight specific development efforts, such as international business, research, disruptive innovation, etc.

This will help the candidates to better make their case, and enable MVA to better judge about the proposals merits in the context of the Moon Markets.
