1. Introduction

The Moon Village Association (MVA), created in 2017, is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Vienna, Austria. The MVA’s goal is to create an informal global forum for governments, industry, academia, and the public interested in the Moon Village vision – a community fostering permanent human expansion to Earth’s Moon. It comprises more than 300 participants in MVA activities and 22 institutional members from more than 50 countries, representing a diverse array of technical, scientific, cultural, and interdisciplinary fields. For more information regarding the MVA, please visit: https://moonvillageassociation.org.

Each year, the Moon Village Association (MVA) organizes a major international event, a workshop and symposium (W&S), at which global leaders in various fields relevant to humanity’s permanent expansion to Earth’s Moon gather to share progress, new ideas, and relevant information. This year, the MVA’s 2025 W&S is being organized in Italy, hosted and co-organized by the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), on December 3–4, 2025, at the Lingotto Fiere Exhibition Centre in Turin, Italy.

2. MVA W&S 2025 Inspiration Theme

Towards a new “giant leap” for humankind: A peaceful and sustainable Moon Village

A new era of space exploration is about to begin. Humanity will return to the Moon to stay. There will be human settlements for both scientific and economic purposes.

This moment offers a unique opportunity — not just for technological innovation and discovery, but for setting an example of international cooperation, ethical stewardship, and forward-thinking governance.

Will we be able to establish rules of mutual respect between the various stakeholders? Will we be able to preserve the lunar environment and the already historic human traces on the satellite? Will the new technological frontiers also benefit the health of our planet?

The 2025 Workshop & Symposium will explore these fundamental questions, inviting participants to reflect on and contribute to the development of peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable lunar activities that will serve both humankind’s aspirations and our shared responsibility to future generations.
