Artemis II: A New Step Toward the Moon

Artist rendition, NASA

Artemis II will be NASA’s first crewed lunar flyby in more than 50 years, carrying astronauts around the Moon and back to Earth on a 10-day mission. It is a critical test of the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft, and a major milestone on the path toward long-term human exploration beyond Earth.

The mission is not a landing, but a free-return trajectory around the Moon that will take the crew farther from Earth than any humans have traveled before. It also marks an important step in NASA’s broader Artemis program, which aims to build the foundation for sustainable lunar exploration and future missions to Mars.
