The Architectural Concepts Working Group of the Moon Village Association aims to foster an interdisciplinary platform for exploring architectural strategies, technology and standards enabling solutions as well as spatial concepts for a future Moon Village. The group brings together expertise from architecture, engineering, human factors, environmental and social sciences, and related fields to address key challenges from multiple perspectives. Through regular thematic forums, the Working Group will focus on specific topics—ranging from habitat design and construction to environmental constraints and human experience in extreme environments.
The objective is to encourage open exchange, critical discussion, and the integration of diverse viewpoints in order to develop holistic and forward-looking architectural approaches that contribute to the broader Moon Village vision and strengthen collaboration across MVA Working Groups and to provide actionable concepts to the international community.
As part of this initiative, the Architectural Concepts Working Group is launching the Moon Architecture FORUM Series — a recurring online forum dedicated to discussion, knowledge exchange, and future-oriented thinking around lunar architecture and habitation. Each forum will focus on a dedicated theme and provide a space for interdisciplinary interchange, serious discussion, speculative thinking, and the sharing of ideas, research, and experiences. The forum is intended as an open platform to collectively explore future directions and move the conversation forward, and takes place on a quarterly basis.
Join Maria Antonietta Perino from Thales Alenia Space for an introduction to the company’s lunar base projects, followed by selected presentations from our open call. A moderated discussion among participants will then explore the next steps for lunar architecture.

Maria Antonietta Perino is Director of Space Economy Exploration and International Network at Thales Alenia Space Italia. With four decades of experience in the space sector, she has managed major European Space Agency and Italian Space Agency activities related to Moon and Mars exploration.
Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo, develops satellites, exploration systems, and orbital infrastructure. Its expertise includes pressurised habitats and technologies supporting future human activities around and on the Moon.

The first forum was held under the theme:
“Moon Village – From Vision to Reality – What’s Next?”
This inaugural forum will explore different opinions, philosophies, and concepts surrounding the original idea of the Moon Village, tracing how the vision of a human presence on the Moon has evolved through contributions from space agencies, architects, engineers, researchers, designers, and thinkers across disciplines.
Rather than treating the Moon Village as a fixed concept, the discussion approaches it as an open and evolving framework shaped by diverse interpretations — ranging from technological and infrastructural solutions to cultural, social, architectural, and philosophical perspectives on future lunar life.

We are honoured to welcome Professor Jan Wörner as the keynote speaker for the inaugural episode of the Moon Architecture FORUM Series. As the originator of the Moon Village concept, he has inspired a new approach to international cooperation, bringing together space agencies, industry, academia, and emerging actors in an open and collaborative framework. His vision has profoundly shaped the international dialogue on humanity’s return to the Moon and provides the ideal starting point for our discussion on the future of lunar architecture.
