Call for Applications – Lunar Governance Working Group Chair

The Moon Village Association (MVA) hereby announces an open call for applications for the position of Chair of the Lunar Governance Working Group (LGWG).

The LGWG is the primary MVA committee dedicated to lunar governance issues. The Working Group has undertaken high-profile projects to contribute to the evolution of best practices and legal norms that facilitate lunar missions of all types. Past LGWG projects include work on (i) enhancing information sharing through expanded use of the Article XI index, (ii) better understanding the obligation to carry out lunar activities for the benefit of all humanity, and (iii) the role and regulation of new technologies, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, in lunar exploration. The call is open to all interested candidates. Applicants who are already GEGSLA participants and/or members of the Moon Village Association will be considered a strong asset.

Terms of Reference

The LGWG Chair will act as a representative of the Group and will:

  • Provide strategic coordination of LGWG activities;
  • Moderation of meetings and discussions together with the LGWG co-chair;
  • Contribute to the preparation, coordination, and review of written outputs and reports;
  • Facilitate inclusive and constructive expert dialogue, particularly at the interface between technical, policy, and international governance discussions.
  • Outreach, when feasible, the LGWG activities to promote its visibility in the world

Desired Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • A strong interest and preference for lunar activities, including their scientific, technical, policy, and/or governance dimensions;
  • Background or experience in international relations, including the United Nations COPUOS, space policy, and multilateral cooperation;
  • Working-level proficiency in English (spoken and written);
  • Proven drafting skills, particularly in structured, policy- or expert-oriented documents;
  • Moderation and facilitation capabilities, including the ability to guide expert discussions in a balanced and inclusive manner.

Terms

This is a voluntary position and does not entail compensation. The appointment reflects a professional service role within an international expert framework.
