Vacancy Notice: Co-Chair of Working Group on Lunar Commerce and Economics (LCE)

Humankind is going back to the Moon, but this time to stay. To make this possible, we need to engage with a whole array of commercial entities which might not previously have been involved in space business, such as mining industries. New providers of launch capability may soon make it possible to deliver as much as 100 tons of cargo to the Moon. The MVA is working to prepare the market for this transforming capability, and to this end has created the Working Group on Lunar Commerce and Economics (LCE), which is creating a Lunar Commerce Portfolio to address and characterize these needs and opportunities.

The job

The Group is seeking a volunteer Co-Chair to help guide the work, starting during July 2021 and fully involved by 1st August, and continuing thereafter for about a year, possibly longer. This involves, in particular, managing the synthesis of the work of nine volunteer market teams who have begun creating the material.  The workload varies in intensity, but the successful candidate must expect to be able to find at least 4 to 6 hours a week to dedicate to this task. Online team meetings can sometimes be required at times of day that are helpful to members living in time zones all around the globe, as is the case in all international organizations. Other key task areas include maintaining the presence of the LCE Working Group on the Moon Village Association website, and other social media venues, and coordination with other MVA Working Groups and external entities, where relevant. The successful candidate will need to become a member of the MVA, and furthermore sign a Volunteer Agreement which protects the rights of the volunteers and of the MVA respectively, in producing the Lunar Commerce Portfolio.

The requirements

This is a key position which requires important qualities such as supportive team spirit in an international volunteer situation, where good English communication skills will be essential.

In addition, important areas of experience for the successful candidate will include:

  • Experience in market development, planning and forecasting
  • Ideally some experience in terrestrial manufacturing, energy, or extraction industry, and/or the VC funding process
  • Experience/interest in the publication/editing process
  • Driving Power Point / Zoom / Webinars and progress meetings, helping with member recruitment and motivation, and monitoring Slack channels.

There are no a-priori requirements regarding nationality, age, or gender.

What are the benefits?

This job will take up a lot of your personal time, use your knowledge and experience, and yet is unpaid, so what do you gain from taking it on?

  • Valuable experience of working for a reputable international organization, and its leadership and experts.
